Dear Middle School Families,
Last week, our grade 8 students presented their Grade 8 Community Project journey to the grade 6 and grade 7 students during advisory. They worked hard to complete a substantial, self-initiated project, developing many skills that will benefit them as they enter the Upper School and beyond. In preparation for their presentations, the grade 8 students created a video recording of their presentations, which their advisors viewed and provided feedback on before they presented to the grade 6 and grade 7 advisory classes. From these videos, the grade 8 advisors selected six high-quality presentations to be shared with the wider community. We hope you will enjoy learning about their journey and what they accomplished through the IB MYP Grade 8 Community Project. Click here to access the videos.
Thursday, May 2 through Tuesday, May 7, we look forward to all Middle School students showcasing their skills and knowledge on the Educational Records Board (ERB) standardized assessments. Administration of each of the eight subtests will take place during a different class block each day to minimize the impact on subject-area class time. Students with extended testing time accommodations may miss a portion of one or more classes but will be given the opportunity to make up any associated work. Students are not expected to study or prepare in any other way in anticipation of these assessments.
Along with performance on class assessments and IXL diagnostic test scores, data from the ERB tests will be taken into account when determining class placements for next year. For this reason, it is important that your child be in attendance on campus on the following dates:
- Thursday, May 2 - B and D blocks
- Friday, May 3 - E and G blocks
- Monday, May 6 - F and H blocks
- Tuesday, May 7 - A and C blocks
Please refrain from booking outside appointments for your children on these days and times. Make-up testing sessions for students who miss one or more of the regular testing sessions will take place Wednesday to Friday, May 8-10.
Sincerely,
Naomi Pawlik
Head of Middle School
